CONSTITUTION OF THE
FERRET INFORMATION RESCUE SHELTER & TRUST SOCIETY
1. The name of the Society is "Ferret Information Rescue Shelter
Trust Society".
2. The purposes of the Society are to prevent cruelty to and promote
the welfare of the domestic ferrets (Mustela Putorius Furo) specifically
and animals in general.
Without limiting the general intent, the Society may:
a) provide a provincial non-profit care and adoption service specifically
for ferrets to complement and assist that run by the SPCA and others,
thereby lessening the strain on those organisations;
b) provide an information service to all people, organisations
and businesses with an interest in ferrets;
c) represent the best interests of ferrets and ferret-related groups
at a provincial and local level;
d) establish a programme of education and liaison with owners,
breeders Arid pet stores to reduce the number of mistreated lost,
and abandoned ferrets;
e) promote proper veterinary medical care for ferrets and increase
the knowledge of ferret medical treatment through contact with veterinary
clinics, animal hospitals and associations;
f) provide a long-term care facility for animals too traumatised,
elderly, or ill to put out for adoption and thereby minimise the
necessity of euthanising the animals;
g) develop a programme to provide sufficient and independent funding
for all undertakings of the Society;
h) share funds and information with other charitable organisations
which support ferret welfare, then organisations which support the
welfare of animals in general, at the discretion of the board.
3. In the event of dissolution liquidation, winding up or abandonment
of the society all its remaining assets after payment of all its
liabilities shall be transferred or distributed to one or more recognized
charitable organisations in Canada. The Board of Directors of the
Society shall within one year of the date of such liquidation, dissolution,
winding up or abandonment distribute the assets to such recognized
charitable organizations in Canada (which are so qualified within
the meaning of the Income Tax Act of Canada) - as they in their
sole discretion deem appropriate and in keeping with the objects
of the society. This provision is unalterable.
4. The operations of the Society are to be carried on chiefly in
the Province of British Columbia. This provision is unalterable.
